The Anaheim Angels are literally and figuratively in the heat of the American League West division championship race. If the Angels win the division championship, there should be a great deal of credit given to the rookies on the team. Mark Trumbo, Mike Trout, Jordan Walden, Hank Conger and Peter Bourjos are just a handful of rookies that are contributing mightily to the Anaheim Angels cause.
Peter Bourjos and Mike Trout fly around the outfield playing stellar defense. They look like a blur when they are running the bases because they are so fast. Bourjos has 18 stolen bases this season. He also chips in on the offensive side of the ball. He has slugged nine home runs and has 41 extra base hits. For the limited time Trout has been up with the club, he has shown that he can hit the ball. He can also play any outfield position. With that type of talent he can give the veterans an occasional rest.
Holding down the bag at first base is Mark Trumbo. Trumbo is a candidate for rookie of the year. He is outstanding at first with an uncanny ability to dig out the low throws. He leads rookies in home runs and RBIs. Barring injury, he should be with the angels for a long time.
Conger and Walden round out the handful as battery mates. Walden became the closer for the team shortly after the season started. Since then he has pitched quite a few saves. Conger has spent time behind the dish and calls a good game. So, all hail to the rookies and keep lighting up that halo.
